July 10th Team Building Activities

July 10th, I had the privilege and pleasure of working with the students in the TECH CORPS Ohio/Lead the Way Summer IT Camp. Prior to this time, I had been experiencing a serious case of "writer's bloc" -- I had many projects that required my attention but I lacked the inspiration needed to complete the projects in the way I desired. After spending the morning with these young people - I returned to the office for what ended up being a highly productive afternoon. I want to thank the students again for allowing me to spend time with them and to feed off of their positive energy! Here are some photos from our day together - enjoy!

And the Winner is....
"Team UnCommon"
Unfortunately we did not get a picture of their winning structure :-(

This one did not win, obviously!, but I had to post it anyway :-)
Compliments of "Team ?" (No, I did not forget -- this was their team name) formerly known as the "Lead the Way Boyz"

My First Post

Ok, here goes... after spending almost an hour setting up the design of my blog - I am finally ready to share a little.
This summer, TECH CORPS Ohio is partnering with Lead the Way to host its first ever Summer IT Work Camp. There are 30 students from around Franklin County enrolled in the program. The students are 14 to 18 years old and they attend work camp Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 12:30pm. We have hired two terrific instructors: Ms. Nneka and Mr. Drew! They are absolutely great with our students (and I think the students think so too!) The students will learn about software engineering, computer programming, informatics, as well as job readiness skills. Each day the students spend one hour receiving math and reading tutoring and did I mention that these students are also paid for their time? This is a pretty cool program and I am pleased with how things have gone to this point.
The students are blogging each day about their experiences and next week they will setup their Avatars in Second Life. Well my other work calls, so see ya lata' alligata'!
